Leawood Chamber of Commerce to host Legislative Luncheon. The Leawood Chamber of Commerce is hosting a luncheon gathering of area lawmakers to discuss business issues on Jan. 4 from 11:45 am. to 1 p.m at the Marriott Overland Park, 10800 Metcalf Ave. Cost is $32.50 for members, $45 for non-members. Registration and Networking from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. Advanced registration is required by Jan. 2.
Ernie Miller Nature Center to host a new season of Animal Tales Storytime. The Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s Animal Tales Storytime begins Jan. 4 at the Ernie Miller Nature Center in Olathe. Children ages 2-6 and their parents are invited to come listen and learn during any or all of the eight sessions scheduled on Wednesdays between Jan. 4 and April 19. All children must be accompanied by an adult. This program will feature stories, songs, and surprises. Participants will also get to meet a special animal friend. The theme of the first program of will be “Hibernation.” Each session begins at 10:30 a.m., cost per 30-minute session is $2 per person, including adults. Public hearing set for tonight on creation of TIF and STAR Bond districts for Brookridge project. The Overland Park City Council tonight will hold a public hearing on proposals from the developer to create two new public financing districts to help fund the mixed-use development project. The votes tonight are only on whether or not to establish the districts. The city would at a later date have to actually approve public financing agreements. The Shawnee Mission School District is one of two institutions that hold veto power over TIF agreements, and will have the option to reject an agreement if it is approved by the city.
