Blue Valley Schools Buzz: Measuring Student Success

Kansas leads the world in the success of each student. This vision for the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) was cultivated after countless community conversations across the state about the future Kansans want for their children and the role Kansas education can play in supporting that future.

This vision encourages districts to look at a variety of outcomes to measure student success including:

  • Social-Emotional Growth
  • Kindergarten Readiness
  • Individual Plan of Study
  • Civic Engagement
  • Academic Preparation for Postsecondary Success
  • High School Graduation
  • Postsecondary Success

Like Kansans across the state, Blue Valley knows that focusing on one outcome measure for student success will not give the district a complete picture of a student’s potential to be a successful high school graduate and succeed in life. To truly understand how well we are preparing Blue Valley students we must look at a variety of measures including standardized tests, “soft or life skills,” employability skills and more.

Blue Valley’s work toward the state’s vision of “leading the world in the success of each student” was recently recognized by the Kansans Can Star Recognition Program. The program honored the district at the gold, bronze and Commissioner’s Award level for progress toward the outcome measures that serve as the roadmap for the state’s vision for education.

Stay tuned this year as the district shares more information about the Kansas Vision for Education and the variety of assessment and outcomes measures the district uses to develop a complete picture of student success.
