An official proclamation urges residents to “congratulate and celebrate Jason Sudeikis and his many accomplishments.”

The city gives a nod to Sudeikis’ incessant citing of his hometown pride in the show.

“He brings a slice of home to the show, whether through references to local barbecue joints or his character’s articulate Midwestern persona, based on his high school basketball coach, Donnie Campbell,” the proclamation reads.

It also notes how he “continues to give back to the Kansas City area through the Big Slick fundraiser and acts as a wonderful ambassador for our great city.”

It’s been quite a run recently for the Overland Park native and Shawnee Mission West grad, propelled by the wild popularity of AppleTV’+’s “Ted Lasso.”

Last month, the show scored Sudeikis an Emmy for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy.

The show also won for Outstanding Comedy Series, along with statues for two other actors, Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein, for best supporting actress and actor in a comedy, respectively, and three technical awards for a total haul of seven Emmys.

Earlier this year, Sudeikis also won a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for his portrayal of the perpetually optimistic soccer coach.

Sudeikies was also recently named one of Time Magazine’s most influential people of 2021.

In a brief essay for Time’s list, Sudeikis’ former Saturday Night Live castmate and current late night talk show host Seth Meyers wrote:

“Jason is kind and charming, a good listener and a great hang. He’s the kind of friend who puts together the perfect cocktail of the right people, place and activity. And he has done exactly that with this show. The cast shines, the writing crackles, and it pairs the rhythm of a classic sitcom with the heart of a sports movie. It’s hard to make something this good look so easy.”
