A new locally owned donut shop is set to open in south Overland Park next week.
Daylight Donuts will open Monday, Jan. 10, near the Heatherwood Village subdivision at 14852 Metcalf Avenue.
The grand opening comes after roughly three months of renovations at the site.
On top of donuts, the store’s owners, husband-and-wife team Seiji Thomas and Jeena John, say they will also partner with other local businesses, like The Roasterie and Red Kitchen KC at the Lenexa Public Market, to serve other items like coffee drinks and burritos.
Thomas said they decided to open their own donut shop partly as a way to connect with the local Overland Park community.
They’ve wanted to own their own business for a long time, he said, and they plan to partner with local churches and organizations to find ways to give back.
“Our kids love donuts and that’s what inspired us to do this as well,” Thomas said. “This is our first venture out. I’ve been in the corporate world for 21 years and I quit that to start this new venture.”
Daylight Donuts was founded more than 60 years ago in Kansas City, Kansas, and there are now at least six independently owned Daylight franchises, including ones in Olathe and Lenexa.
Thomas’ and John’s shop will be the first in Overland Park.
The store will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday and from 6:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. It will be closed on Sundays.
