Food & Wine names three Kansas City barbecue restaurants with Blue Valley locations as some of Kansas City’s best

Three Kansas City barbecue spots with locations in the Blue Valley area have been named some of the metro area’s best in a top-eight ranking from Food & Wine magazine. Check out the restaurants below.

Q39: Q39 made the cut with some of the best barbecue in town. Q39 has locations in Kansas City, Missouri, and at 11051 Antioch Road in Overland Park.

  • Q39’s menu ranges from specialty sandwiches like burnt-end burgers and brisket dips to wood-fired steaks.
  • The restaurant also made the Post’s “5 to Try” list for Johnson County’s best barbecue ”deep cuts’, as a top recommendation by Post readers.

Joe’s Kansas City: One of the most famous Kansas City barbecue brands out there Joe’s has multiple locations around the metro, including two restaurants at 11723 Roe Ave. in Leawood and 11950 South Strang Line Road in Olathe.

  • In addition to ribs, the Joe’s menu includes barbecue sandwiches with a range of meats, like pulled pork and smoked turkey.
  • Food & Wine specifically recommended the “Z-Man” sandwich, which comes with brisket, smoked provolone cheese and crispy onion rings.

Gate’s Bar-B-Q: A Kansas City staple for decades, Gate’s Bar-B-Q has several locations around the metro, including at 2001 W. 103rd Terrace in Leawood.

  • Items on the Gate’s menu include short-end and long-end plates, double-decker sandwiches, and sides like potato salad and onion rings.
  • Food & Wine’s feature also recommended the restaurant’s “yammer” sweet potato pie for dessert.
