A new form of luxury lodging for dogs is about to open in south Overland Park.
Driving the news: Pet boarding services K9 Resorts is set to celebrate the grand opening of its first “luxury dog hotel” in the city on Saturday, Oct. 1 starting at 11 a.m.
Where exactly? The new 7,200-square-foot indoor and outdoor space is located at 8200 W. 135th St., near B&B Theaters.
At the corner of 135th and Hemlock, the site neighbors Johnson County’s first Whataburger location, which opened in March.
The details: With the new boarding facility, dogs can stay in “luxurious suites” that come with flat screen televisions, chandeliers, Italian flooring and Kuranda dog bedding, according to a news release.
Owners can book either traditional caged or cage-free rooms for their dogs.
Bookings also include individual or group playtime, and some packages come with special features like enhancements to reduce sound for the pets.
Stacie McCarty, a marketing and management professional who formerly served as the senior project manager for Hallmark Cards Corporate, is the owner of K9 Resorts of Overland Park.

Bigger picture: The new space is the pet boarding company’s first Kansas location.
K9 Resorts originated in New Jersey, and the company now has 22 locations in 12 states.
Aside from the incoming Kansas location, some of the nearest locations are in Colorado, Iowa and Texas.
K9 Resort’s grand opening celebration
Taking place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, the humans-only grand opening event for K9 Resorts of Overland Park will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony to kick off the opening of the space.
A local shaved ice truck from Paiges’s Shaved Ice will be on scene as residents tour the new facility.
Attendees can also take home treats for their four-legged friends from PawsAbilities, a local Kansas City nonprofit that offers people with developmental disabilities skill-building and job opportunities.
