UPDATE: Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead will remain closed Friday, Oct. 7, so the city of Overland Park and the Kansas Department of Agriculture can complete the avian flu mitigation process, and to keep the farmstead animals as safe as possible, a city spokesperson said.

“Farmstead staff worked throughout the day today to drain and sanitize the duck pond where the affected geese were housed, as directed by our partners at KDA,” said Meg Ralph, communications and media relations manager for Overland Park. “Despite the week’s dry weather, full drainage of the pond was a slower process than expected.”
